The Sizzle

Campanula Resholdt’s Variety is a selected form of what is already regarded as a most rewarding, ground hugging member of the bellflower family.

It's outstanding for many reasons: clusters of large violet-blue flowers are produced in abundance late in spring - in November they smother the bush and spot flower right through to summer's end; it's extremely adaptable, tolerating the driest of conditions in full sun to part shade and it will please in patio containers, rock gardens, over banks, down walls, and it's perfect for the front of a prominent border.

It's an evergreen perennial growing just 15cm tall and spreading to 80cm. Ideal for using between irregular paving stones or from gaps in retaining walls, garden borders or as a ground cover between taller perennials or herbaceous plants in your garden bed/border.

Using Campanula Resholdt's Variety

  • Extremely versatile - a "look good anywhere" plant.
  • On the patio in containers, pots and baskets.
  • In the garden - rockeries, over banks, and down walls
  • Perfect for the front of a prominent border.
  • Among more formal structures - between paving stones or for gaps in retaining walls,
  • As a ground cover between taller perennials or herbaceous plants in your garden bed/border.
  • Can be used in native or cottage style gardens.

Growing Campanula Resholdt's Variety

  • Select a warm, sunny spot. Dappled shade's OK, but best flower performance is brought out by sunny conditions.
  • It needs a freely drained soil, wet "feet" will diminish performance.
  • Drought tolerant although mulching and the occasional deep watering during extended dry periods will increase overall plant performance. Do not allow plant to dry out.
  • Pruning and shaping's not usually needed, the plant will stay tidy all by itself. If, after winter, the bush is looking a little scruffy, a clip to tidy will allow new growth to grow rapidly with a promise of the glory of last season.
