Tecomanthe speciosa
Tecomanthe speciosa
Dramatic native climber

A vigorous vine, suitable for planting where there is strong support for its sturdy stems. The beautiful bunches of pale yellow flowers sprout from the older, woody stems and hang down, so its a good idea to train Tecomanthe speciosa over a structure such as an archway or pergola so you can look up to the flowers. Tecomanthe will flower well in sun or light shade but needs a warm situation with protection from frost. Flowering time is late autumn to early winter. The flowers are great favourites of the tui. The foliage is large, shiny and dark green, providing an attractive year-round feature. Regular light pruning helps keep Tecomanthe speciosa from growing too far and wide.
