Pohutukawas are greatly loved for their vibrant Christmas-time colour. This special pohutukawa is a better than ever version of this great native tree, selected for its special, showier than usual flowers and glossy foliage. It’s a perfect tree for coastal areas, both as a solitary specimen as well as for shelter, even hedging. Its also an ideal choice as a street tree for coastal towns, thriving without fuss and living for centuries, unlike some popular street trees that are past their best in a few decades. Metrosideros Vibrance, is ideal for planting at the holiday batch. Its handsome enough to grow on its own, spreading over the front gate or growing into the perfect shade tree for the years ahead. Or it can be used as part of a mixed shelter planting of coastal trees, which could include such things as puka, Meryta sinclairii, and Banksia integrifolia.
Metrosideros Vibrance is also useful for including in fashionable subtropical gardens, for it has attractive foliage and the flower display is a match for many a flamboyant tropical tree or shrub. And best of all, if Vibrance gets a bit too big for its garden situation, you can take to it with the pruning saw without fear of doing harm, for it will soon recover and shoot into bushy new growth even if cut back to bare wood. The ability to take cutting and trimming means that it can also be used as a hedge, but remember that lots of trimming will result in far fewer flowers than when a pohutukawa is left to grow as nature intended.
