A handsome, rounded, evergreen, cold-hardy shrub, Pieris ‘Christmas Cheer’ has a name which isn’t particularly relevant in the Southern Hemisphere, for it’s the handsome new spring foliage and beautiful spring flowers which are its chief, cheerful attributes. The fresh foliage is an attractive bronze colour, turning green to match the rest of the bush as it matures.
The flowers are masses of pretty white bells, tipped with pink at their ends, and held in long, drooping clusters. The flower colours are best where there’s a little overhead shade. A classy shrub to grow with rhododendrons and camellias in a rich soil, and if in light shade to surround with ferns, hostas, pulmonarias, hellebores and other shade lovers.
