Rhaphiolepis Ballerina
Rhaphiolepis indica 'Ballerina'
Thriving on neglect

This is a tough shrub with class. It can stand all manner of neglect and still go on looking great for year after year. It flowers for a long period in spring and summer, after which the interest continues with handsome foliage on a dense growing, rounded bush. Use Ballerina in low maintenance shrub borders, beside paths and decks, on banks and in beach gardens too - it's tough enough to thrive in pure sand and it's drought tolerant once established. Good drainage and sunshine are its main requirements.

Mingle with other low growing, free flowering, sun loving shrubs such as Eriostemon Bournda Beauty, Eriostemon Profusion, Coleonema Album, Coleonema Pinkie, Convolvulus cneorum and with Hebes such as Champagne, Totara Blue and Wiri Image. On a sunny bank plant Ballerina with ground cover forms of rosemary such as Lockwood de Forest or Masons Finest or cascading, almost-always-in-flower Convolvulus Blue Lake for a good combination of colour and form. Background plantings of Echium fastuosum, Cordylines, Yuccas and flaxes can be used for drama.
