Solanum Grandiflora
Solanum 'Grandiflora'
Fast growing climber has many uses

The fact that Solanum jasminoides ‘Grandiflora’ is seen in many gardens shows just what a good climber it is, able to adapt to a wide range of garden situations with ease. It grows quickly and the flowering performance is remarkable, continuing over much of the year and in such numbers that the dark green foliage is hard to see at times. This is a great climber to use for quick privacy. It will soon cover a trellis or fence and can be kept as a dense, hedge-like screen by giving it an annual trim with the hedge shears. Or drape it over a shed, disguise an unsightly wall, tank or big stump with it - there are all sorts of possibilities so long as it has something to cling to as it climbs.

Gardeners who like to experiment with colour will appreciate the possibilities of using this climber as a background to colourful furniture - imagine it with a deep blue or red garden bench or as part of a white and silver or blue and white garden. A striking Mediterranean look could be had with Solanum Grandiflora, lavenders, Cistus ‘Bennetts White’, Rhaphiolepsis ‘Snow Maiden’, Echium fastuosum, hebes, Leucophyta ‘Silver Nugget’, Plumbago ‘Royal Cape’, Choisya ternata, Astelia banksii and Ceanothus varieties ‘Blue Cushion’, ‘Joyce Coulter’ and ‘Yankee Point’.
