This impressive kangaroo paw has long stemmed flowers, up to 1.2 metres tall, which make it an impact plant in garden borders, raised beds and banks. It’s definitely a sun lover, so why not mingle it with other extrovert plants which enjoy the sun and will also flower all summer such as Alstroemerias or Osteospermums.
The bold form of Anigozanthos ‘Royal Mist’ makes it striking as a contrast to colourful ground covers such as Convolvulus ‘Blue Lake’, Arctotis and Gazanias. For a carefree look in a coastal garden surround it with deep red or butter yellow nasturtiums. Other ideas to consider are mingling it with compact Leucadendrons such as ‘Julie’ or the low and bushy, dwarf form of Australian frangipani, Hymenosporum flavum ‘Gold Nugget’ which has pretty, golden-yellow, sweetly scented flowers. Anigozanthos ‘Royal Mist’ will flower even more profusely if the old flower stems are cut off at the base as the flowers fade. You can also cut the fresh flowers for the vase. They last well in water and strike just the right note with modern décor
