Looking for an easy-care shrub which will give a great flowering display in autumn when the garden lacks flower power? Then Hebe ‘Wiri Vogue’ could be the answer. The spikes of pretty pink flowers it produces are a stand out feature of this 1 metre high, bushy, evergreen native shrub.
It establishes quickly and is very easy to grow, needing a sunny situation and well drained soils. Protect it from heavy frosts and give it a light trim after flowering and you will have a metre high and wide shrub that will look good year round, for the matt green foliage is an attractive feature too.
Grow Hebe ‘Wire Vogue’ as a foreground to other handsome shrubs. Try it with pink abutilons, Dichroa ‘Blue Sapphires’, the deliciously fragrant Michelia figo and Osmanthus ‘Pearly Gates’ and dazzling deep pink Polygala ‘Liddle Charmer’. Or grow it with small, upright growing trees such as Michelia ‘Fiona’, evergreen Magnolia ‘Little Gem’ and Gordonia ‘Moonlight Magic’.
Hebe ‘Wiri Vogue’ can also be grown as a background to handsome perennials such as Polemonium ‘Bressingham Purple’ and Polemonium ‘Lambrooke Mauve’, Echinacea ‘Kim’s Knee High’, Salvia ‘Indigo Spires’, pink alstroemerias and purple penstemons, and the glorious summer flowering bulb Eucomis ‘Sparkling Burgundy’ with pineapple shaped flowers which last for a long time.
For quick effect, plant ‘Wiri Vogue’ with several other Hebes such as ‘Ohau’, ‘Wiri Image’ and ‘Wiri Port’, add some pink marguerite bush daisies such as ‘Sunrise Rose’ and ‘Summit Pink’, bushy lavenders such as ‘Major’ and ‘Pukehou’ and you will soon have a garden that will have everyone sitting up and taking notice.
