Helleborus Flash Gordon
Helleborus 'Flash Gordon'
Cold weather beauty

Hellebores have become sought after garden plants in recent years, especially those with dark flower colours like Flash Gordon. Why are these tough, cold hardy, easy to grow perennials so popular? It has much to do with their beautiful flowers which last for months in winter and early spring, looking almost as good by the time they set seed as they do when they first open. Its also because they are extremely easy to grow throughout the country, tolerating the coldest climates but flowering just as well in the frost-free north.

Use Hellebore Flash Gordon wherever you have a bit of shade. Plant it as a groundcover in the foreground of rhododendrons and camellias or around deciduous trees such as flowering cherries. Make a special planting of Flash Gordon with special, low growing shrubs which like similar conditions, such as the beautifully fragrant Daphne Rubra. Or you can grow a plant in a handsome pot and position it near a doorway where it will brighten cold winter and early spring days. A group of Flash Gordon beside a shady path with bold textures - gravel or cobblestones for example - creates a very pleasing, minimalist scene and the great thing is that the interest continues after the flowers finish, for hellebores such as this provide year round foliage interest.
